Frozen Flowers

Your kids will love this awesome activity which involves many layers of play and interaction through the creation of frozen flowers. I love this activity because it is SOO simple, beautiful and incredibly cheap (FREE). It also involves many different rich experiences before and after you create the frozen flowers.

The collection of the flowers in your yard or neighbourhood allows for exercise, a scavenger hunt, and some vitamin D which is so good for the whole family.

The feeling of different sensations (water, ice, petals), mixed with the sights and smells of the foliage, allow for a great grounding, and learning experience for you and your kids!

Directions

Step 1:

Collect flowers and place them into a small container that will fit inside your freezer. You can even add some grass or leaves to add more green to your art.

This is by far my favourite part because my daughter and I love going for walks. She is a huge fan of collecting sticks, flowers, and just about anything she can get her hands on! We tend to turn this part of the activity into a game of I-Spy or some kind of scavenger hunt.

Step 2:

Fill container with water to cover the foliage.

Step 3:

Place container in the freezer to freeze overnight.

This is the part where my daughter opens the freezer 10 times an hour to see if her art has frozen over LOL!

Step 4:

Once completely frozen, take out of freezer and enjoy!

Voila!
I love seeing all the different plants amongst the bubbles.
My daughter enjoyed chipping at the ice with a couple sticks!

The day after we put together our frozen flowers, we took them outside to watch them melt. My daughter found two small sticks that she used to chip away at the ice in order to take out the leaves and flowers. We spent a decent thirty minutes outside, soaking up the sun and discovering the flowers in a new and interactive way!
